Rock Seawalls and Underwater Beaches
We are installers of quality built natural rock seawalls, fieldstone, glacial stone and rip rap. We use geotextile fabric that is on a 12ft wide and 400ft long roll to create one big blanket of shoreline protection under the rocks. The fabric also prevents weed growth. Stones also work well in front of concrete seawalls to prevent muskrats from digging under the concrete and into the yard. Rocks also do a great job of breaking up wave action so waves do not go over the seawall. It is widely believed, but not proven, that heavy wave action rebounding off the concrete seawalls can blow fish eggs out of their beds, for species who bed by shore.
We use plywood to build a road through the grass so we do not cause any property damage; also, our equipment is small and modified for this type of work and we only need a 4 foot wide pathway to get through. We always like to say, mow the grass one time and you will never know we were here.
If you have muck or weeds in the lake where you like to swim, 6 inches of pea gravel on the lake bed will firm up the bottom and choke out the weeds. We have developed a system to pump pea gravel from the road or driveway to the lake. This method saves money by removing much of the labor cost involved with wheel barrowing. Property damage is also eliminated due to the fact that we only have a hose in the yard instead of equipment, and as far as we are concerned, the steeper the hill the better... “gravity helps” in this method.
